I cook...and I blame my mother. During family dinners in Kentucky, membership to The Clean Plate Club was required. The result? A childhood of learning to like everything on my plate.
At the age of fifteen I took my first cooking job and I have been working in food ever since. Rolling up my sleeves, tying on an apron, and teaching others how to cook delicious food is what I love to do.
With over ten years experience working as a culinary professional, I began teaching in Chicago. I held positions as the Lead Cooking Instructor at The Viking Cooking School and Director of Children’s Classes at Northshore Cookery. Here in Portland, I can be found regularly teaching at In Good Taste in the Pearl District. I specialize in technique and themed based classes for home cooks and children.
My approach to food was refined in award winning restaurants and fine catering establishments across the country and in France. I’m proud to have honed my skills in such places as Provence, Boston, Louisville and Portland. I attended La Varenne Culinary School in Burgundy, France where I trained under renowned cookbook author Anne Willan. While there, I learned the art of recipe development and frequently use those skills in freelance work. My recipes have appeared in the Louisville Courier-Journal and Martha Stewart’s Everyday Food magazine. I also hold a bachelors degree with honors from Wheaton College in Massachusetts.
